Characters

Despite their radically different beliefs, sometimes heroes and villains can be raised in a similar fashion...

If…
• Heroes and villains are (separately or together) raised in abusive homes, the hero will break the cycle of abuse, the villain will continue it
• The hero is raised in an abusive house, s/he will still be able to determine right and wrong according what is dominant to our society (E.g. don’t bash up kids, don’t abuse the wife etc.)

Villains
• One step ahead of the plot and hero
• are usually alone, or if they do have people around them they are slaves or have motivations other than what the villain does
• either overpower the hero (more troops, better magic, god-hood etc.) or are equal with the hero when they have their “magic sword” (or whatever)

Heroes
• Are modest and don’t lord their skill/power/position over others
• Are rarely alone, have lots of travelling companions - traditionally many of different races
• Feel reluctant or have little hope or feel compelled to try to win and know they they will die if they fail
• Usually feels personally threatened, even if only in one scene (just thinking about the enemy invading their homeland, or if one of their kin or loved one is taken hostage.
